Ounsdale High School in Wombourne have been valued supporters of Compton Hospice for a number of years. This year the school put on a Valentines Concert in aid of the hospice, raising over £500. A number of their extremely talented students entertained their classmates with some truly goosebump inducing performances during the night and were then kind enough to come and do it all over again for our patients in The Woods Centre. We surprised the students by awarding them with our Compton Champions of Music Award whilst they were there to say thank-you for all of their hard work.
The Champions of Music Award celebrates those who use their musical or technical abilities to put on a fundraising event for Compton Hospice. Music is an important part of our everyday lives offering benefits ranging from easing pain, to helping people sleep better, reducing stress, easing depression and even elevating cognitive performance! Music therapy is also an established clinical discipline which is widely used to help people whose lives have been affected by injury, illness or disability, which is why we particularly focused on creating an award around it.
The performances from the Ounsdale students moved both the patients and staff in the hospice, so much so that one of our patients has commissioned the group to perform at her wedding later this year.
Well done Ounsdale!
